Friendship

It has been a really busy week... i'd like to share some quotes on friendship for us to ponder... To all my friends... thank you for everything...

  • It is wise to apply the oil of refined politeness to the mechanisms of friendship.
Colette, The Pure and the Impure, 1932French novelist (1873 - 1954)

  • If a man does not make new acquaintances as he advances through life, he will soon find himself alone. A man should keep his friendships in constant repair.
Samuel Johnson, English author, critic, & lexicographer (1709 - 1784)

  • Never refuse any advance of friendship, for if nine out of ten bring you nothing, one alone may repay you.
    Madame de Tencin

  • Don't flatter yourself that friendship authorizes you to say disagreeable things to your intimates. The nearer you come into relation with a person, the more necessary do tact and courtesy become. Except in cases of necessity, which are rare, leave your friend to learn unpleasant things from his enemies; they are ready enough to tell them.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table, 1858US author & physician (1809 - 1894)

  • Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love.
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey English novelist (1775 - 1817)

  • All love that has not friendship for its base, is like a mansion built upon sand.
Ella Wheeler Wilcox, O Magazine, February 2004

  • I have nothing but contempt for the kind of governor who is afraid, for whatever reason, to follow the course that he knows is best for the State; and as for the man who sets private friendship above the public welfare - I have no use for him either.
Sophocles, AntigoneGreek tragic dramatist (496 BC - 406 BC)
